Get your flu shot this fall

September 20, 2022

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone 6 months and older get a flu shot every year by the end of October. Getting a flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from the flu and its potentially serious complications. With Marketplace insurance, immunizations are a covered preventive care benefit. This means your flu shot is free from a provider in your plan’s network.

3 ways the flu shot helps support healthy families

  • It’s a simple way to protect yourself and your loved ones. Every year, the flu vaccine prevents millions of illnesses and flu-related doctor visits.
  • It helps protect people with certain chronic conditions, like heart disease, lung disease, and diabetes from serious illness and hospitalization.
  • Getting a flu shot during pregnancy helps provide protection during and after pregnancy. It also helps protect the baby from the flu for several months after birth.

How & why to report application changes ASAP

August 10, 2022

Did you recently get a new job or have a baby? Changes to your expected income for 2022 or your household size may impact your health coverage options or amount of savings you qualify for. • Adding or losing household members, like through birth or adoption
  • Getting offers of other health coverage, like someone in your household getting an offer of job-based insurance or becoming eligible for Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, or Medicare

Get the full list of changes to report.

Marketplace coverage & essential health benefits

July 21, 2022

There are 10 categories of services — called essential health benefits — that all private health insurance plans offered in the Health Insurance Marketplace® must cover.

What are the 10 essential health benefits?

  • Ambulatory patient services (outpatient care you get without being admitted to a hospital)
  • Emergency services
  • Hospitalization (like surgery and overnight stays)
  • Pregnancy and newborn care (both before and after birth)
  • Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment, counseling, and psychotherapy
  • Prescription drugs
  • Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices
  • Laboratory services
  • Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management
  • Pediatric services, including oral and vision care (this doesn’t include adult dental or vision coverage)

What else does the Marketplace cover?

  • Marketplace plans must also offer birth control and breastfeeding coverage.
  • Some Marketplace plans may have dental and vision coverage too, but these benefits aren’t required.
  • Call your plan to check if it covers a particular service.

New baby? You may have new coverage options

July 11, 2022

Congratulations on your new baby! How you’ll get coverage for your baby depends on your current insurance status.

If you don’t have health insurance:

  • Having a baby qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period. This means you can enroll in or change 2022 Marketplace coverage. When you enroll in the new plan, your coverage can start the day your baby was born.
  • Apply within 60 days after your baby’s birth. Your plan can cover you, your baby, and any other household members.
  • It’s important to have access to health care services for both new parents and baby. With Marketplace coverage, you can get preventive benefits, like well-baby visits.
  • Learn more about Special Enrollment Periods and how to apply.

If you have a Marketplace plan:

  • You can keep your current plan and add your baby to your coverage.
  • Update your Marketplace application within 60 days of your baby’s birth. Your coverage options and savings may change.
  • You can create a separate enrollment group for your baby and enroll them in any plan for the rest of the year since having a baby qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period. (You can’t change plans, but you can select any plan available to your baby.)

If you have Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage:

  • If you’re found eligible during your pregnancy, you’ll be covered for 60 days after you give birth.
  • After 60 days, you may no longer qualify. Your state Medicaid or CHIP agency will notify you if your coverage is ending. You can enroll in a Marketplace plan during this time to avoid a break in coverage.

If you have Medicaid when you give birth, your baby is automatically enrolled in Medicaid coverage, and they’ll remain eligible for at least a year.

Get more information on your health coverage options if you’re pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or recently gave birth.

Your coverage options may change if you move

June 29, 2022

Moving can be an exciting time. As you get ready for your move, it’s important to remember moving may impact your health insurance coverage options and savings. Don’t forget to update your application to get the best plan and right amount of savings available to you and your household in your new area.

Your next steps depend on where you move

When you move to a new state:

  • You can’t keep the same plan from your old state. It’s important to let us know about out-of-state moves right away, so you don’t have a break in coverage and continue to pay for coverage that doesn’t apply in your new state.
  • To get coverage in your new state, you need to start a new Marketplace application and enroll in a plan in your new state. How you apply depends on whether your new state uses HealthCare.gov or its own website.
  • Apply for Marketplace coverage in your new state.

If you move within the same state:

  • Your coverage options and savings probably won’t change based on your new address. But you should still let us know, so we know how to reach you.
  • Here’s how to update your address online.

Learn more about how to make updates to your Marketplace coverage when your income or household changes.
